Chandler and Daniel met in Beijing, China, where their shared interest in beer, brewing, and local culture quickly led to the idea of opening a craft brewery in the city. Chandler is originally from the Washington D.C. area, and Daniel from Corvallis, Oregon. Despite their different backgrounds, both had a strong appreciation for beer and a deep engagement with Chinese culture and language. Combined, they bring over 35 years of experience living and working in China.
Since 2011, they’ve worked together to grow Slowboat Brewery from a small mountain facility into a well-established brewery with five taproom and brewpub locations across Beijing, anchored by a dedicated production facility in Tianjin that supplies fresh beer throughout China.
Originally from Oklahoma, Baylor joined Slowboat in 2014 and has served as the Chief Brewer of Slowboat Brewery since 2016. As head of the brewing team, he has developed hundreds of beer recipes spanning nearly every style imaginable - from classic lagers and IPAs to experimental seasonal brews. His approach to innovation is grounded in a deep understanding of brewing fundamentals, balanced by a curiosity for new ingredients and techniques. He’s known for combining creativity with discipline, pushing boundaries while maintaining consistency and quality in every batch.
Joined Slowboat in 2016, and thanks to his previous experience in academic research, Alex quickly rose in the ranks, In 2019, he was appointed as the Chief Brewer of Slowboat's Maizidian Brewpub. Currently, he is responsible for brewing and production management, and is committed to combining traditional raw materials with the latest brewing techniques to create craft beer with local characteristics.
